Each year, more cars and drivers are on the highways. As this number goes up, the chances of a car wreck will also go up. Automobile insurance can make the difference between a small setback and a major trial. But why is insurance important and just how much do you need? Car accidents can lead to a variety of different expenses, which can all be paid for based on the insurance policy you have purchased. Your state or province certainly requires some type of car insurance. Making the decision to drive without owning insurance could mean you have to repair or replace a stolen or damaged vehicle or pay the cost of all the damage that you may have caused. Liability: Bodily injury and property damage that you have caused will be paid for under this type of insurance. It also covers your defense and court costs if you are sued. Local laws usually require minimum amounts, but larger amounts are available and very beneficial. Personal Injury Protection: This is required in some states and is optional in others. It pays you or your passengers for medical treatment resulting from a crash, regardless of who may have been at fault, and is often called no-fault coverage. Local government usually sets minimum amounts. Medical Payments: Medical payment coverage is available in non-no-fault states; it pays regardless of who carries responsibility for an accident. If you purchase this type of coverage, you will receive payment for all types of medical or funeral costs. Collision: Damages that occur from a collision will be paid for under this kind of car insurance. Comprehensive: Protect your car from all non-collision damages when you buy this type of insurance. This can include protection from burglary, vandalism, and fire or flood damage. Uninsured Motorist: If you are hit by an uninsured driver, this type of insurance coverage will make sure you are covered. Under-Insured Motorist: Many drivers have liability insurance that might not be able to pay for all the expenses they are responsible for. Under-insured motorist coverage covers you in accidents involving those drivers. Other kinds of car insurance, such as emergency road service and car rental, can also be purchased.
